Letšeng Diamonds mine is situated in a region recognized as a biodiversity hotspot, adjacent to priority conservation areas identified during the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Park (MDTP) Project. It is also located in close proximity to the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site, which lies along the border of South Africa. The Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area (MDTFCA) is globally acknowledged for its exceptionally high plant species diversity and richness, including numerous endemic species, making it a critical area for biodiversity conservation.
To manage and protect this biodiversity, Letšeng Diamonds implements a comprehensive Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP). This plan is supported by the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Sector Plan, ensuring that environmental considerations are integrated into all operational activities. The company’s commitment reflects its dedication to sustainable practices that preserve the unique ecological heritage of the region.
