Our Approach
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) issues are a critical value within the Gem Diamonds Group and specifically at Letšeng Diamonds. Programmes to ensure continual improvement in HSE performance are in place. These programmes promote occupational health, prevention of injuries, prevention of property damage and minimising impact on the environment. Subscribing to an internationally-acclaimed HSE management system clearly indicates Letšeng’s commitment and belief that Zero Harm is attainable. National statutes provide basic minimum standards. Therefore, genuine commitment to preventing accidents and incidents, especially in accident-prone mining and construction sectors, can only be achieved through continual improvement. Sound planning and leadership are key to providing strategic direction on health, safety and environment. The involvement of management and employees at all levels gives impetus to our programmes. Some of the key pillars of our HSE Programme at Letšeng Diamonds are the following: Provision of enabling training, competencies, effective communication, management of operational risk and change, prompt reporting of incidents (including near-misses), at-risk behaviour and conditions, prevention-oriented investigations, sound management of corrective and preventive actions, promotion of safe behaviour, brother’s keeper principle at all levels and Visible Felt Leadership.
